The commission consists of joining three units located on a top floor of an office building in the Eixample Esquerra neighborhood of Barcelona, in order to turn them into a single office. The new space should be as open and luminous as possible.
However, the presence of existing elements that need to be preserved - MEP patios and pillars - and the depth of the existing space hinder a good distribution of the new offices. Practically all options end up having spaces without natural light, or overly compartmentalized.
Richard Serra's sculptures have served as inspiration to find a proper solution. A large wooden box articulates the surrounding space, so that provides flexibility and continuity between the different areas, while hiding the servant spaces and holding the most important space of the office: the meeting room or, in other words, the space for discussion, dialogue and agreement, the fundamental act that structures society and enables economic activity.
