Natural disasters are frequent in Chile. For this reason, there is a need to propose building prototypes designed for vulnerable areas that have been affected by natural disasters and require the immediate construction of basic infrastructure for people.

In this sense, the Cardboard House is a building prototype made with cardboard elements, designed to offer a versatile space that can serve as a shelter or as a space for community activities.

The sense of belonging to a community is a determining factor in post-catastrophic situations because it facilitates aid and reconstruction tasks. For this reason, the prototype is designed to offer a space dedicated to solidarity, fostering and strengthening the social ties that build a community of people.

Efficient use of materials as well as ease and speed of construction are determining factors in the design of emergency buildings, as well as the structural resistance of their construction elements.

The prototype is made with prefabricated structural elements of cardboard tubes, wooden joints, and steel cables. These elements are arranged next to each other, defining a circular space, covered by a taut canvas fixed to the prefabricated structural elements with cords. Consequently, all structural elements contribute to the stability of the building, in a similar way to how people do with society.
